High Reliability SCADA for Wind Turbines Based on Redundant Ethernet Ring

For wind farm operating system, itis essential to keep everything work efficiently and reliably, without interruptions or unacceptable delay. This relies on a robust networking infrastructure evenunder harsh outdoor conditions and many other specific requirements.

  • For example, the PLC which locates at top windmill for monitoring the status of wind turbine could allow very short delay in communication, ie, within 50 milliseconds.
  • Also, each wind farm site may have hundreds of windmills, all joint by a complicated network infrastructure. And it poses a key challenge to manage such sophisticated network.
  • Windmills are expected to work for many years, even in harsh environment, so does the network.

At the basement of the windmill,another ISM 3010D collects data from the top and transmit onto the fibre ring.
